Spindle Repairs

When it comes to machining purposes spindles are described as any of a variety of different types of rotating shafts that are designed to serve as an axis point on which a larger part can rotate. For example, spindles can be found in many different types of machines. They can be a motor component or a mechanical device driven to rotate satisfactorily to the machine's performance design. Precision spindle repairs are an integral part of the services we offer. Our procedures allow for the spindle to consistently maintain a tight performance tolerance which is a direct reflection of the service life on the machine. Our spindle repairs are dictated by a standard operating procedure (SOP) that is specific for every customer we service. This also enables our processes to be ISO 9001:2000 compliant. Our experienced technicians are trained to determine the root cause failure of each individual spindle and to recommend enhancements to lengthen the service life. These recommendations are not limited to only original design improvements, but can include retrofitting products to achieve the same goals. One of these improvements is our patented Fluidguard™. This device provides a safe exit of fluids from the spindle housing and inhibits spray or splash entry into the housing. Our Fluidguard™ is installed in many of our repairs. Different designs of the Fluidguard™ enable it to be retrofitted to many different spindle designs. Our Fluidguard™ can greatly reduce maintenance and repair costs while increasing machine uptime. Once installed, Fluidguard™ will last the life of the spindle motor.

Spindle Replacement or Repair?

Spindle replacement is not the only option available when a spindle fails. A repair can normally be performed much less expensively. Repair in lieu of replacement can greatly reduce the customer's machine downtime and eliminate any need for adapting new equipment on their machines. Many times spindle replacements require mechanical and/or electrical changes to the machine and an increased lead time. Repair eliminates these challenges at a greatly reduced overall expense.

The repair process for spindles can involve re-boring of the spindle housing. McBroom technicians have designed special fixtures to enable this process to be cost effective. This re-boring process can typically include a lengthy time frame and is an intricate part of the whole process. McBroom's custom-designed equipment can greatly reduce repair time on task and eliminate considerations of spindle replacement.

In cases where spindle component parts are not available or have a lengthy delivery time, McBroom's spindle repair technicians can reverse engineer these parts to produce the same quality performance. This capability also reduces the consideration of a replacement.
